Splurge #3 Singapore Haul – Eyes & Lips

Recently I was in Singapore, the land of shopping and boy did I do some shopping!  They also have a Sephora!  When I saw that I thought I had died and gone to heaven, after a month in India I definitely needed some luxury in my life.

I somehow ended up spending all of my money in Sephora alone so I thought I would share what I purchased.  Now it would be too much to do it all one post (told you I spent a lot) so I’m going to split it up into two parts – eyes and lips and then face products.

First up is eyes!  As you can see above I couldn’t buy just one palette I had to get two!  This is the Stila Eyes Are The Window In Soul and Mind.  First up is Soul– This is an absolutely stunning palette!  It has a mixture of shimmers and mattes which comes in very handy.  Surprisingly I actually don’t have a lot of these colour in other palettes (well I do but there is a slight difference so I still needed to buy it).  I feel like this is the perfect all in one that you could take on holidays and need nothing else, the possibilities are endless with this little beauty!  The second palette is Mind– this one is all mattes.  Now I look at this one and think, I probably could have done without this one but what the hell – when in Rome and all that.  The shadows themselves are super pigmented and extremely easy to blend which isn’t always the case with mattes.  It has got a great mixture of warm and cool tones which is perfect, it is also perfect for a more subtle day time look or mixed with the shimmer palette for a nice shimmery look.  All in all I’m in love with these palettes!

To continue with the eyes I couldn’t go past the hype of the new Benefit Roller Lash-this is a really lovely mascara it definitely keeps the curl in my lashes and lengthens them to no end! It doesn’t separate my lashes as much as my beloved clump crusher but it only needs one coat and you’re good to go. I also love that this one can be removed a hell of a lot easier than the they’re real mascara!  Next up I went a little crazy on eyeliners!  I don’t really stray much from black or brown liners so this time I thought I would branch out and get some colour into my life.  First up is the Sephora Waterproof Contour Eye Pencil 12HR Wear in Diving Malaysia – this is a beautiful olive colour with gold shimmer running through it.  This is a subtle way to add some colour into your makeup, it isn’t terribly noticeable but just adds a little somethin’ somethin’ to your look.  Second is another Sephora 12HR Eye Pencil in Surfer Babe-now this one is is a bit more colourful, a bright turquoise that can be used subtly on the top or bottom lashes to up the ante.  I actually wore this to a festival a little while ago and it just added a little bit of fun to my look.  Third is the Sephora 12HR Eye Pencil in Purple Stilettos- This is a lovely lilac purple which I have used a fair bit in the summer.  I normally line the top lash line which doesn’t look too crazy, it also makes my eyes look especially green!  The sephora eye pencils are great!  They are super creamy and don’t drag at all. Plus they are waterproof so they do a good job of lasting all day!  Next up is the Urban Decay 24/7 Glide on Pencil in Hustle- A great bronze colour that is waterproof, something I don’t actually own.  I get a fair bit of use out of this when I don’t want to use a black liner.  Finally is the Stila Smudge Stick Waterproof Eyeliner in Mint Julep- this one was an impulse buy for sure!  I went to use this during the summer and was a little disappointed.  My plan was to just draw a simple line on my top lash line without any other eyeshadow etc however, it was very patchy, I was expecting an opaque line what would look really striking.  Even when I tried to build it up it kept rubbing away in other spots.  Not happy with that purchase.

Now to my absolute favourites – lipsticks!  I feel that I was quite conservative with the amount of lipsticks I purchased, four is nothing compared to what I am capable of.  First up is MAC Matte in Pink Pigeon – This is a super hot pink colour, very opaque and very striking on the lip.  I actually wore this when I got off the plane to fake the look of freshness even though I felt like rubbish!  I hadn’t tried any of the new Nars lipsticks so as soon as I saw a Nars counter I jumped on them.  I came out with the Nars Audacious in Angela – This is what I would describe as an orchid purple, now will you believe me if I say I don’t own a colour like this?  Probably not but I bought it anyway.  These lipsticks are beautifully creamy and opaque which is what I want in a colour like this.  I have gotten a fair bit of use out of this one so far!  Next up is the Too Faced Melted Longwear Lipstick in Melted Peony – This is just a lovely everyday pink that will go with any look so this was definitely a great purchase, I often wear this if I’ve done a dramatic eye and just want something simple on my lips.  Finally is my absolute favourite Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Dolce Vita – I have quite a few of these lip pencils and a while post dedicated to them (click here if you would like to read it). I had never even given Dolce Vita a second look however, when I swatched it I thought it would be perfect for everyday wear, a very subtle dusty rose.  I actually pair this with MAC lip pencil in whirl to get the ‘Kylie Jenner’ look.  This is an absolute staple in my handbag at the moment.

So there it is, part one of my Singapore haul.  On Friday I will post what face products I purchased including quite a few foundations.  To be honest I went foundation crazy over there!

What is first on your list when you visit Sephora?  I’m always up for suggestions especially now that Sydney has a Sephora.

Travel Makeup

First of all I would like to apologise for my absence.  For a little while I didn’t think I had time to commit to this blog but then I thought what the hell!  I love doing this so I’ll just have to make time for it!  So I hope you forgive me and I would like to say that I’m back with new posts every Monday and Friday.  This one is just a little added extra to get back into it.

A few months ago I headed off on a six week adventure to Nepal, India and Singapore with my lovely cousin Carly.  We had an amazing yet challenging time, India isn’t the easiest country to travel especially when it involves camping and twelve hour drive days.  However, it was an wonderful experience and one that I will never forget due to the amazing people I met and the amazing country that it is.  I think visiting countries like this really make you appreciate what you have at home and what we take for granted, I know that it definitely made me reevaluate what is important in life.

Having said all that I wanted to share with you what I took in my makeup bag!

So this is everything I took with me, its not much (for me anyway) but it did the job!

For primer I brought my trusty old Benefit Porefessional, I knew in some parts of India and definitely in Singapore that it would be hot so I wanted a primer that would keep the shine at bay.  We also had extremely long days so I wanted a primer that would make my makeup last that little bit longer and I know I can’t go wrong with porefessional!  For foundation/bb cream I chose the Benefit Bigger than BB Big Easy in 03 Light/Mediumthis was perfect as it had spf30 and a fairly good amount of coverage plus it is a cream to powder formula which is great for old shine ball over here!  One day we spent three hours trekking through the jungle, when I got back and checked how my makeup was fairing I was astounded to notice it had not budged!  Now that’s a good BB cream. I also had to pack my Chanel Perfection Lumiere Velvet in No. 20, I chose this for the times I wanted something lighter and for the times when we would be going out at night and didn’t need any spf.  This is just perfect for evening and smoothing out my skin.  For powder I chose Rimmel Stay Matte in 003 Peach Glow, this is just a great powder that keeps me shine free and sets my makeup, nough’ said.  The Sleek Face Form in Light – this palette was the perfect travel companion, it is slim as well as having three great colours in one convenient palette.  The blush is a little too glittery for everyday use and I didn’t use the highlighter during the day but it all came in handy at one point.  For everyday blush I used The Body Shop All In One Blush in 06 – this is just a lovely pink that adds a nice flush to the face, I’m actually still using this one at home!

For the eyes and concealer I took a beautiful birthday present that is looking a little worse for wear after the trip.  It is the Nars And God Created the Woman Palette – This is the perfect travel eyeshadow palette, it has a couple of mattes plus some shimmers, I also used the black and the dark brown for eyeliner.  Again I didn’t use this everyday, I used it more in Singapore and if we had some nights out in India.  For concealer I used my favourite combination of Napoleon Perdis The One Concealer and Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser Dark Circles – I cannot beat this combination, the peach tone of the Napoleon concealer covers the purple circles under my eyes whilst the Maybelline one does the rest!  I knew there were going to be a lot of early mornings so I knew I had to take this combination with me.  For eyeliner (which I used rarely) I chose a miniature Nars Larger Than Life Long Wear Eyeliner in Bronze – This is just a good old bronze eyeliner to add some definition and drama if I wanted it.  Covergirl Clump Crusher in Black – Is still one of the best mascaras I own!  It seriously separates every single lash which is what I love!  It also looks quite natural which is perfect for this kind of trip.  Most days I would just use Benefit Gimme Brow through my brows to darken them a little plus add some thickness but if I wanted some more definition I used the Essence Eyebrow Designer in 04 Blonde – This is just a great cheap little pencil that is quick and easy to fill in my brows, can’t go wrong wit that!

So that’s my basic travel makeup bag!  I know a lot of people wouldn’t wear makeup everyday whilst travelling however, I do. I just feel more comfortable that way plus I have my routine so down pat that it only takes me an extra ten minutes to do it.

What’s in your travel bag?  Do you have any must haves that you can’t travel without?

Now, if you want to continue reading I thought I would add a couple of photos and notes about my trip!

We started in Kathmandu and travelled on an overland truck all the way down to Mumbai India.  We saw some amazing sights that would be impossible to describe as well as some of the kindest people you could ever meet.  As I said earlier India was not a walk in the park, for some it was very confronting to see that much poverty and it was some of the poverty was heartbreaking.  I have been to Africa twice so I didn’t think it would hit me as hard as it did, I thought Africa would have prepared me for it but it didn’t

Through our trip we drove through some very remote towns and stopped in the little village for a warming cup of Chai (I am completely obsessed with it now, I’m constantly on the search for a Chai as good as the ones I had over there).  From driving through these towns we got a real sense of what India is like and how people live day to day, this is the kind of travel I like to do, I like to get a real sense of the country not just the tourist destinations.  One day I will never forget is a camel ride through the Rajasthani desert, it was so amazing to see desert atop of a camel!  That night we slept under the stars, it was so peaceful and amazing to see the star shining so brightly, a sight you don’t see in the city!

We ended our amazing adventure in India with a week by the beach in Goa, South India.  This was pure luxury, a five star hotel, which was a welcome change, and plenty of cocktails by the pool.  After Goa we stopped of in Singapore to have some more luxury at the Marina Bay Sands hotel.  This was the most amazing hotel I have ever stayed in!  And thanks to my beautiful cousin Carly we ate at one of the most sought after restaurants in Singapore called Jaan, to say this was decadent would be an understatement, this was pure heaven! I will never forget that meal.  I will also never forget this holiday, although it was challenging at times I believe it was an experience that I will be forever thankful that I had and will always remember.

The truly surreal Taj Mahal.  It was an amazing sight to see the sun rise over the Taj Mahal

A snake charmer of the Ganges River

The best food I have ever eaten!  Including this delicious Thali

Our lovely camels getting ready for our night under the stars

Finally, my cousin and I about to ride off into the desert.

I would also like to quickly send my thoughts and prayer to the people of Nepal.  They are truly the most beautiful and gentle people I have ever met.  They will be in my thoughts through this tragic event.
