Bold Winter Lipsticks

I love me a bold lip and when winter comes around I am all about the dark reds and berry tones!  So today  I thought I would share my favourite bold winter lips.

First up is my all time favourite lip formula, the Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Cruella – I love this deep red, its just so flattering on every skin tone.  I am normally ghostly white in winter so this really pops on my pale skin plus it makes my teeth look amazingly white.  Next up is Rimmel Lasting Finish By Kate in 107 – this one is a fave of beauty youtuber Zoella and she definitely had a part in me buying this one.  I really love the formula of the Kate Moss lipsticks and this one is no exception.  Its such a stunning deep deep berry red that looks absolutely stunning on a night out.  A new one to my collection is Revlon Colorburst Matte Balm in Shameless – this is a really dark purple that scared me at first but I’ve finally been brave enough to wear and I really like it.  I wear quite a sheer wash of it but it just adds quite a fashion forward look to my makeup.  Staying with Revlon its the Revlon Colorburst Balm Stain in Crush – this one is an old favourite of mine and probably the first lipstick that got me into the darker shades.  As its a bit glossier that the matte shades it is probably a good one to start out with but still gives you that real berry toned lip.  I love this as well as it leaves a stain on you lip so there’s no awkward wearing off.  Finally back to Nars its the Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Damned – this one is truly stunning!  Its a beautiful berry purple tone that is slightly pinkish, I love this kind of vampy colour with a nice wash of a dark matte brown on my eyelids.  I wore this A LOT last winter and I’m sure I will this winter as well.

What’s your favourite bold winter lip choice?

What I wore on Saturday Night

It was a rare occasion that I went out on Saturday night so I thought I would share with you my makeup look.  I had just watched Australia’s Next Top Model where they were all wearing subtle eyes and stunning red lips so I thought I would give that a try.

For my base I chose my favourite foundation for a night out the Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation in 4.5 – This has a great amount of coverage plus it gives my skin a beautiful glow which is what I was looking for.  For my terrible dark circles I chose my favourite combination of Napoleon Perdis The One Concealer with the Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Dark Circle Eraser in Light/Pale – this combination is the only thing that seems to cover up my dark circles, the Napoleon concealer is very think and salmon coloured which cancels out the darkness and the Maybelline concealer is extremely lightweight but adds extra coverage to really knock that darkness over!  For concealing on my face I used a new product to me, its the Amazing Cosmetics Amazing Concealer in Medium Beige – After watching how Lisa Eldridge conceals I realised I needed to use something with a little bit more coverage and this certainly seems to do the trick.

To keep this all in place I used my trusty old Rimmel Stay Matte Powder in Peach Glow – I know this powder will set my makeup plus make it last all night.  I definitely needed to add some dimension to my face so I chose to bronze with another trusted favourite Nars Laguna Bronzer – as you can probably see as I have hit pan, I really do love this bronzer it just adds a lovely glowy bronze to my face.  To add even more dimension to my face I decided to contour with the Hourglass Ilume in Bronze Light – the cream formula and the cool tone of this makes it a very natural contour look and the cream highlighter is also stunning!  Finally for my face I used my new love Max Factor Creme Puff Blush in Seductive Pink – I used this very lightly on the apples of my cheeks for a subtle flush, I really wanted it to be about the bronzer.

IMG_1017For eyes, I wanted it to be super subtle so I used a mixture of Taupe and Sable from my Lorac Pro Palette – this added a bit of definition to my eyes but wouldn’t distract from my dramatic lip.  I also tightlined my upper lash line with the Rimmel Scandleyes Waterproof Kohl Kajal in Black – this was just to make my lashes a little bit fuller.  Now I forgot to photograph the mascara I used but it was the Benefit Roller Lash – this give me nice long and volumes lashes.  For eyebrows I wanted them to be fairly bold so I used my Anastasia Dipbrow in Chocolate – it fills them in perfectly as well as keeping them in place.

Now for the very exciting part, red lips!!  I couldn’t decide whether I wanted to go completely orange red or a blue toned red so I though ‘why not both?’  I filled in most of my lip with Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Red Square and lightly went over that with Cruella this was a beautiful effect and one I’ll definitely be doing again!

So that was my look for a Saturday night out!  I never realised just how much makeup goes into a night look!  When I was taking these photos I thought to myself ‘wow that is a shed load of makeup’.  I hope it’s just not me!  What do you like to wear for a night out?

Glorious Face Masks

Korean skin care has been getting some major traction in the beauty world lately so I though I would share with you some of the Korean sheet masks I have plus a few other face masks that I couldn’t live without.

Recently my mum and dad had a little trip to Singapore so of course I put my order in and this time I wanted to try some skincare considering how much makeup I bought when I was in Singapore.  So I asked mum to head to Etude House to pick up some of their sheets masks.  I had heard a lot about sheet masks and used a couple but after Lisa Eldridge raved about them I knew I had to try more.  These ones from Etude House come in large range for any skin concerns, I mainly focussed on hydrating and smoothing for my oily/combination skin.  I really wanted to concentrate on smoothing and hydrating my dry patches that I get in winter, they are the absolute bane of my existence.  I have a little selection in this photo and have already tried the pomegranate and olive ones, they really did hydrate and smooth my skin, my skin looked so fresh and supple.  To be honest these sheet masks look super freaky when they’re on your face, they are a white cotton sheet (hence the name) that just has cut outs for your eyes and mouth as I said super freaky!  But they work so I love them!

As well as the sheet masks my mum picked me up some eye masks, how cute are those little cucumber ones!  The first ones are Anti Dark Circle Eye Pads from Color Combos Skin – I have yet to try these but I’m very intrigued, I have some serious dark circles so if these work I’ll be in heaven!  The cute little cucumber ones are Cooling Cucumber Pads from Skin Lite – again I haven’t tried these but they’re so cute I don’t want to open them!  I’ve been flat chat with uni at the moment which means late nights and early morning so some cooling eye pads might be just what I need!

Moving away from the Korean skin care I thought I would share my other favourite face masks.  First up is one that is fairly new to be but that I fell in love with instantly!  It’s the Origins Overnight Drink Up Intensive Overnight Mask – I got this one after I got back from India and my skin was in desperate need of moisture!  I use this after cleansing before I go to bed and then wake up with soft plumped and supple skin.  I tend to use this about 2-3 times a week depending how my skin is feeling, its just an absolute miracle worker.  I will definitely be repurchasing this one.  Next up is an absolute beauty world favourite its the Aesop Parsley Seed Clarifying Mask – This is absolute perfection in a tube, I don’t know how it does it but it smooths and clears my skin and someone shrinks my pores slightly!  Again I use this about 2 times a week and I often follow it up with either a sheet mask or the Origins mask to give my skin a real treat.

What are you favourite masks?  I’m still fairly new to the mask game so If you have any suggestion please let me know!

Ready Set Go!

If you’re an oily skinned girl like me or want your makeup to last all day a setting powder is the way to go!  As I’ve mentioned before, just a couple of times, my face is an absolute oil slick so I need to use a setting powder every time I wear makeup if I want it to stay on my face!  So here are the ones that are in my collection at the moment.

First up is the Rimmel Stay Matte Long Lasting Powder in 003 Peach Glow – I’ve loved this powder for a looong time, this is probably about my third or fourth one and as you can see I have hit pan on this one too!  I pretty much reach for this one when I have a long day, I just know I can trust it, it sets my makeup perfectly and keeps me matte for at least a couple of hours.  For those with dry skin this one might be a little bit too matte but for those of you oily ones like me its absolutely perfect.  Once this one runs out I know I’ll be grabbing another one.  Next up is another traditional kind of setting powder, its the Bourgeois Healthy Balance Powder in 52 Vanilla – this gives me a matte finish without me skin looking too flat.  I would say that this one would be a great beginner powder for someone who doesn’t really like to use them.  The packaging of this one is brilliant for travel or having in your handbag, it is super slim so it takes up no room whatsoever.  Moving on towards a more ‘new age’ powder its the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Diffused Light – this little beauty is a game changer, it is almost magical the way it adds a beautiful ethereal glow to your skin without making you look like a disco ball.  I use this alone in winter but when its a stinking hot Australian summer day I use my Rimmel powder then this over the top for a little glow.  So technically this next one is a powder foundation, its the Chanel Vitalumiere Loose Powder Foundation in No.20 – so this one is quite a thin powder foundation that doesn’t have super high coverage like other powder foundations so I tend to use this over a BB cream or tinted moisturiser.  As it is quite light it just adds a little bit more coverage to a tinted moisturiser and makes it last all day so its my perfect companion and I mean honestly how can you not love Chanel!

So now you know how I keep my makeup on my face and not sliding down it.  Do you have any tips or tricks to set makeup?

Favourite Matte Lipsticks!

At heart I am a real matte lip lover, i’m not one for glosses at all i’m all about the matte!  I thought I would share with you my favourite matte lipsticks of all time.

Starting off with may favourite lip product of all time the Nars Velvet Matte Pencils –this one isa rather grubby looking Red Square –   can you tell I love this a one? I just absolutely love this formula, they are so easy to apply and very creamy so not too drying on the lips.  I have MANY different colours and have actually written an entire post about these beauties here but I always go back to the shade red square, it is just a beautiful orangy red that really makes a statement.  Next up is the Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet – this one is in Ole’ Flamingo.  These are a liquid lipstick that dries to a matte finish, I just love the way that these apply as well as the stunning colours they have! Ole’ Flamingo is a beautiful deep pink that I got a lot of wear out of in summer.  I often head for these when I’m rushed for time and just to a simple eye and slick this on as I know it will last all day or night.  Again I have a few shades of this one but I would have to say Ole’ Flamingo is my favourite.  I have mentioned the NYX Matte Lipstick in Audrey in previous posts as well, I just think this is the perfect drugstore lip formula!  It’s not drying, has lots of pigment and this shade in particluar goes with everything, I get so much wear out of it.  Keeping with drugstore lippies the Revlon ColourBurst Matte Balms are another brilliant drugstore lipstick.  This one is in the shade Showy a bright pink that always adds a nice pop to a look.  Now these aren’t as long lasting as the previous product and do require reapplying but they are just nice and creamy and with the wind up stick they are very convenient.  Finally I couldn’t go past MAC Matte Finish Lipsticks – this one is in the shade Pink Nouveau, this is a little more pinky than NYX Audrey but I still use it as an everyday lipstick, plus it lasts a bit longer than Audrey!  Mac lipsticks are just heaven, they last a really long time as well as well as being incredibly pigmented.  This shade was one of the first MAC lip products I purchased and this is my second tube of it!  It just such a great universal pink that looks fantastic when I have a bit of a smokey eye, it just adds little bit of colour without taking focus away from the eyes.  Great work MAC!

As you may be able to tell I love me some pink lipstick!  The last three look rather similar but do serve different purposes and it will not stop my from buying more pink lipsticks!

So there you go my favourite matte lipsticks!  What do you think of my choices?  Do you have any that I might be missing?

First Time in the Sydney Sephora!

Sephora has been in Sydney since December last year and as a beauty blogger you must be thinking – how the heck have you not been in there yet?  A very valid question!  When Sephora first opened I was overseas and was very disappointed not to be one of the first in there and as I was in Singapore which also has Sephora I went crazy in there instead – I actually have two blog posts on what I purchases in Singapore here and here.  So as that was the case I for some reason took my sweet old time getting there, but last week I managed to get into the city and spend a small fortune!  I have to tell you I am so, so, so excited that all of those brilliants brands are in one convenient store especially as some of those were a nightmare to get in Australia!

Here’s what I got!  I started with the new Yves Saint Laurent Fusion Ink Foundation in B20 – This sounded like my kind of foundation as soon as I read about it – highly pigmented, lightweight and long lasting so I knew I had to rush out and get it.  It is certainly lighweight, it glides over the skin smoothing everything in its path, it also has a great pigment as it give me very decent coverage using little product.  I have used this a couple of times now including long days at work and uni and it really does last!  Apart from a little bit of oil breakthrough that I just blot away it doesn’t break up on my skin or disappear which is what I’m really looking for.  I actually find this a little bit similar to the Chanel Perfection Lumiere Velvet but with a much longer lasting formula.  Overall I think this will be a fantastic foundation for me even though the price almost killed me!  Sticking with foundation I purchased the CoverFX Custom Cover Drops in N 20 – I’ve heard a lot about this little product in the beauty world and it just really intrigued me.  So the whole premise of this is that you can add a couple of drops to any foundation or tinted moisturiser to customise the coverage – what a brilliant idea, being able to add more coverage to a foundation or moisturiser!  I gave this a go by adding it to a bb cream that I love but would love if it had more coverage.  This truly worked!  I added two little drops, mixed it in and voila the perfect coverage!  I thought this product would be great in a darker shade to add to my foundation when I have fake tan on as well.  All in all a handy little product right there.

The last item I purchased was the Nails Inc VVB Victoria Beckham Collection in Bamboo White and Judo Red – to be honest I brought these for then packaging alone!  It just looks so darn pretty!  But I have genuinely heard great things about these nail polishes and as I have a couple of Nails Inc polishes I knew they would be worth it.  I’ve only used the Bamboo White at this stage and I’m in love!  It’s such a sophisticated colour that just looks effortless on the nails and is really easy to apply.  Normally I steer clear of really nude colours as they can be quite streaky and need lots of coats but it isn’t the case with this one, after two coats it was perfect.  I can’t wait to try the red now!

There you have it my first time to Sephora Sydney!  I may not have purchased a lot but my poor little wallet is looking quite sad at the moment.

Any suggestions what to pick up for my next venture to Sephora?  I’m sure it won’t be long till i’m there again!

Palette Time!

On a particularly dreary day I went on a little online shoppings spree, my products of choice was eyeshadows!  At this stage even I am thinking that I have enough eyeshadow palettes but for some reason it just isn’t stopping me.  First up is the Lorac Pro Palette

Lorac Pro Palette

Now this little beauty needs no introduction, it has been around the beauty world for a long time but Lorac is particularly hard to purchase in Australia so I had to do some serious research to find it.  These eyeshadows are seriously creamy and seriously pigmented!  They just glide onto your eyelids and make blending an absolute breeze. I also love the fact that it has matte and shimmer colours so it makes it perfect to travel as you have absolutely everything you need!  The Garnet shade is a particular favourite of mine, it looks really lovely with my green eyes.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERANext palette I purchased is TheBalm Balm Jovi Palette this is one of the coolest palettes I own, the name first of all is hilarious and the fact that all of the shades are a version of bands is just great!  These eyeshadows are probably the most pigmented colours I have ever worked with plus they are super super creamy which makes it a dream to work with.  At the moment I am I love with using Blink 1982 all over the lid and then Alice Copper in the crease and outer V.  I then sometimes use Presto to push right into the top lash line to thicken my lashes a little.  I have been really reaching for this a lot since I purchased it and I really that it is a brilliant palette, it has an amazing range of shades as well as a mixture of shimmers and mattes.

A bonus of this palette is that it comes with a highlighter and blush as well as two lip colours!  What a handy little thing, it makes it absolutely perfect for travel!

TheBalm is known for its highlighters and this is no exception, this is a beautiful and subtle highlighter that gives a lovely glow.  The blush is also the perfect peachy shade for everyday, it gives me a beautiful natural flush.  The lip colours are called Milly and Vanilly enough said, just fantastic!  I love it!

So there you go another two palettes to add to my collection.  Did I need them, no but did i want them, yes!!

Have you tried either of these palettes?  What did you think?

Disappointing Products

Now you might think that this is a little bit of a negative post but I absolutely love reading and watching posts about disappointing products.  I really think they’re a good idea, it often saves me money on products that I would have bought so I thought it might save you as well.  These are entirely my own views so if you own and love some of these products that is fantastic, its just my opinion here.

First up is the Charlotte Tilbury Take It all Off Eye Makeup Remover – I got this is in a Charlotte Tilbury pack with eyeshadow, eyeliner and a few other bits and bobs.  Now I’m not saying that this is absolutely terrible its just doesn’t do an amazing job, to get my non waterproof mascara off I have to absolutely soak a cotton pad and rest them on my eyes for quite a long time and it still doesn’t remove it all.  As well as that the products squirts out everywhere when you try to pump it on your cotton pad.  I am using it up but I much prefer my Garner Micelar water.  Next up is Australis Highlights Mineral Face Highlighter in Pearl – Again this isn’t a shocking product it just doesn’t work well on my skin.  When I place this on my cheekbones over my foundation it separates and removes the foundation from that area.  I’m sure this would be lovely mixed in with a little bit of foundation for a very glowy look but over the top of foundation it just doesn’t work on me.  I think I’ll stick to my powder highlighters.  Sticking with the face I have MAC Face and Body in N1 – This is probably quite controversial, its a very loved product in the beauty world but for me I just don’t have that love for it.  First of all I find it quite hard to blend, its quite sticky or something, second of all I don’t find it easy to build up, I can never get the right amount of coverage I need.  Finally this isn’t an oily girls friend!  I get super shiny from it which I am definitely not a fan of for obvious reasons.  Now I’ve talked about this product in a previous post here, and mentioned that I am not a fan but I thought I would mention it here as well.  This is the Stila Smudge Stick Waterproof Liner in Mint Julep – I just really expected this eyeliner to draw a opaque line that would really striking on the top lash line however, it was really patchy and was impossible to get a smooth line so not a fan at all of that one.  Maybe I’ll like the eyeliner in another colour.  Eyebrow wise I have Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Pen in Universal Deepshade – I love the idea of an eyebrow pen that can draw on realistic looking hairs with a sharp texta.  However, this shade isn’t quite right, it is very cool toned turning almost grey on my skin.  It also king of seeps into my skin making it look like I have dark grey patches all over my eyebrows.  I just can’t seem to draw precise little lines without it bleeding into a blob!  Not a cool look at all!  Finally I have a skin care product, its the Ren Resurfacing AHA Concentrate – In winter I get these lovely little dry patches on my jaw line that look really lovely under foundation – NOT!  When I read about this product I thought it would ‘resurface’ these dry patches and make them a little bit smoother and less noticeable.  It did not.  In fact it actually made them a little bit worse, my whole skin kind of dried out even after slathering on a hydrating serum and hydrating night cream.  I’ve used this for over a month now and I’m just not getting any results which is disappointing as I love Ren products!

So there you go, some products that I just haven’t been able to get along with.  Have you tried any of these products?  How have they been for you?

April Favourites

April Favourites

Now that I’m back in the world of blogging I thought I would start doing a favourites blog at the end of the month, I’m sure you know how it goes, I share with my favourite products of the month.  For April I have a bit of a mixture of beauty and hair.

First up is a very new product to me its the Living Proof Perfect Hair Day 5-in-1 Styling Treatment – to be honest I don’t use a whole lot of hair products, my hair is quite thin and gets very greasy so some products tend to weigh down my hair as well as make it look greasy.  However, this is a products I get certainly get down with!  All you have to do is brush it through damp hair, blow dry and it adds volume, keeps it incredibly smooth and frizz free.  Normally this is all I do and I’m out the door but if i’m going out and curl my hair I can guarantee that this will look those curls in.  Next up is another hair find the Tangle Teezer – Now I know I am definitely late to the party on this one but I always thought that with my short hair, whats the point?  Now I certainly know what the point is!  This seriously glides through you hair without any tearing whatsoever, I have ridiculously knotty hair but with this I don’t end up in pain after brushing it.  Hallelujah!  A fairly new product on the scene is the Max Factor Creme Puff Blush in 15 Seductive Pink – I am really enjoying this blush!  It’s quite a subtle pink marbled through with a goldy champagne colour through it, this adds a beautiful sheen to your cheeks whilst also giving a lovely flush as well.  These have been compared to the Hourglass Ambient Light Blushes, I have only swatched these in the shops but they do looks quite similar.   It’s safe to say this has been on my cheeks since I purchased it.

For eyes I’ve been loving Mac Paint Pot in Groundwork – This is a very light brown creme eyeshadow that is just a ‘your eyelids but better’ kind of deal.  I’ve been wearing this a lot with a winged eyeliner, it just adds that little bit of definition to your eyelids and also stops the eyeliner from creasing on my oily eyelids!  Another eye products is the Shu Uemura Eyelash Curler – Another product I’m ridiculously late to the party with, I honestly believed all eyelash curlers would do they same job but they don’t!  This gives a curl like no other and it also keeps the curl all day long, I definitely won’t be straying from this beauty from now on.  I’m sure you haven’t been able to get away from the hype of Benefit’s Roller Lash – this is definitely worth the hype, this mascara really gives the lashes a real curve as well as some intense length!  I’m really enjoying it so far, I do tend to like a drier mascara so I can’t wait till it dries out just a little bit.  Base wise I’ve been loving the Etude House Precious Mineral Any Cushion in Natural Beige – This gives the skin an airbrushed powerless finish, its curious little product as you press the little pad it comes with into the foundation soaked cushion and press it into your skin and bob’s your uncle – flawless skin.  Finally I’ve been loving the Maybelline Colour Drama Intense Velvet Lip Pencils – I have a few of them now but this month I’ve been really digging Nude Perfection.  I’ve previously stated that nudes just don’t look right on me however, this is little bit more brownish so it seems to work.  I have legit been wearing this for the whole month of April!  It just goes with everything, especially the winged eyeliner look I’ve been going with.

So that’s my April favourites!  What have been your favourites been this month?

Splurge # 4 Singapore Haul – Face Products

Now its time for part two of the Singapore splurge – its all about the face!  I have to admit I went a little bit foundation crazy over there, foundations can be a little bit expensive in Australia so I thought it was the perfect time to purchase everything I had been dreaming of.

New Foundations

First up is the Tarte Amazonian Clay Full Coverage Foundation in Light Medium Beige – I had wanted this foundation for as long as I can remember and I have not been disappointed!  Tarte has been notoriously hard to get in Australia (not now we have Sephora though!) so when I had the chance to get it I jumped all over it.  This foundation is full coverage but for some miracle reason it does not feel it, it is quite weightless but definitely gives me the coverage I need.  I have a feeling this will be something I repurchase. Continuing with Tarte I have the Tarte Amazonian Clay BB Tinted Moisturiser in Light Medium – This is a much lighter creamier version of the foundation and something that I have been wearing a lot!  I wouldn’t say this is extremely long wearing on my oily skin but when I have a short day at uni or am going for lunch this is my go to.  It’s beautifully lightweight and natural looking but I would say it gives more coverage than the average tinted moisturiser.  I have been dreaming about getting my hands on the Makeup Forever HD High Definition Foundation – This little beauty is exactly what I wanted, something with quite a lot of coverage but doesn’t look cakey plus it photographs like a dream!  I recently has a wedding to attend, I wore this and it really did look wonderful in photographs.  It also lasted all day in some very humid heat.

Moving away from liquid to powder foundation is the Tarte Amazonian Full Coverage Air Brush Foundation in Light Beige – I haven’t really used a powder foundation since they first came out many years ago.  For some reason they always made my face really itchy!  But I have heard so much buzz about this one I had to give it a go.  I love this for days when I’m in a rush and just need a few swipes of this powder and my base is practically done.  This is extremely long lasting and does not go shiny, even on this here oil slick!  Another powder foundation I picked up is the Chanel Vitalumiere Loose Powder Foundation in No.20 – I love Chanel foundations and this is no exception, its is so silky and smooth it just glides over your skin, it also smells divine!  This one isn’t as full coverage as the Tarte one but I actually love swiping this over a light tinted moisturiser to add a bit of extra coverage.  Finally for foundation its the Etude House Precious Mineral Any Cushion Foundation in Natural Beige – This type of foundation is completely new to me!  I had recently seen the queen of makeup Lisa Eldridge use one in a tutorial and wanted to try it.  It is such a strange little thing, it is a sponge soaked in foundation.  When you press the little pad into it, it is actually a liquid foundation that comes out!  But this foundation is absolute gold, when you press it into the skin it gives amazing coverage plus a beautiful airbrushed finish, actually making my pores almost disappear! Who wouldn’t love that?!

Finally I had to restock my beloved Nars bronzer, but this time I decided to upscale and get the Nars Algorithm Laguna Bronzer Palette with the ITA Brush – This is the regular laguna bronzer in a beautiful palette with a mini Ita brush, I wanted to purchase the Ita brush itself but when I came with the bronzer as well who could resist?  As usual the bronzer is perfect and I pretty much use it everyday and with the brush included I can really up my contouring game.

So that’s my Singapore haul concluded, after looking at all this I feel that I may really have a shopping addiction!

What do you think of my choices?  Have you got any suggestions for my next haul?  Because we all know there will be one!
