Flawless Natural Base

I’ve been trying to go for a bit more of a natural base lately.  I mean I still love a full coverage matte foundation but on a day to day base I’ve been wanting to go for a bit of a lighter look.  To achieve this I’ve been using my favourite tinted moisturiser the Tarte Amazonian Clay BB Tinted Moisturiser in Light Medium – this is a lovely light texture yet it still has a fair bit of coverage.  Like the original Tarte full coverage foundation it performs some sort of miracle on the skin, it has lots of coverage yet feels feather light on your skin which is exactly what I want.  Now that I’ve said that it has a decent amount of coverage I still feel like it could use just a touch more to really hide my redness so I add one to two drops of the Cover FX Custom Cover Drops in N20 – this is one of the best products I have purchased in a long time!  It is just pure pigment so it adds so much more coverage to anything!  I haven’t tried these with a regular moisturiser yet but when I add it to this tinted moisturiser it really just adds that extra little kick to it.  This added coverage also means I don’t have to use any extra concealer on my face which always saves time.  So what I do with these is put a blob of the Tarte on the back of my hand then add one to two drops of the Cover FX, depending on how my skin is looking that day, and mix them together.  I then apply this all with the Sigma F80 Flat Kabuki brush – this really buffs the product into the skin which again makes it have that natural look, instead of sitting on top of the skin it really sinks in and becomes a part of your skin.  I just top this off with some concealer under the eyes and some translucent powder to set everything and my base is done!

Marie Claire’s The Parcel

I’ve signed up for a few subscription boxes in the past but I really do think that this one is the best!  It has some brilliant products including a lot of full size ones which is a real bonus!  So I though I would share what came in this seasons Parcel

The first products is an OPI nail polish in the shade Romantically Involved – it’s a beautiful almost burnt red shade that will be absolutely perfect for this time of year.  Next up is L’Oreal Paris Volume Million Lashes So Couture – Looking at the brush on this mascara, it looks quite similar to the Covergirl Lash Blast so I’m pretty sure I’m going to love this mascara.  Volume is the main thing I look for in a mascara so considering this is called ‘Volume Million’ I have high hopes!  It also has the Lanolips Lemonade Lip Aid – I love Lanolips, they are so nourishing and are the one of the only products that really keep my lips from drying out.  Coincidentally I just ran out of my 101 ointment so i’ll be very happy to start using this one.  Now I haven’t used a lot of Estee Lauder skincare but I am very much looking forward to trying their Revitalising Supreme Global Anti-Aging Creme – It feels lovely and claims to soften skin so I really want to see how this works on my dry patches.  More skincare is from the Neutrogena Hydro Boost line, it has three of their sheet masks which I am a big fan of!  I tried one of these the other day and they really do hydrate the skin, my skin was left feeling very plumped and smooth.  When I run out of my many, many Korean sheets mask I think I will be giving these ones another go.  Neutrogena also included a small pack of makeup removing towelettes, these are perfect for travelling!  Next up is the John Frieda Beach Blood Cool Dip Purifying Shampoo and Smooth Seas Detangling Conditioner – I am currently using this shampoo and conditioner anyway so I was happy to get some little bottles of it.  Again this is perfect for travelling and I think i’ll be saving these for my trip to Europe.  It also came with the John Frieda Ocean Waves Sea-Salt Spray – I love sea salt spray for when I couldn’t be bothered to do anything with my hair so I’m excited to see how these all work together.  Finally it came with Woolworths Select Quick & Easy Nail Polish Removal Wipes – I tried these straight away as my nail polish was looking pretty crappy and I was very disappointed.  They’re acetone free so they don’t remove anything!  I know acetone free is better for your nails but it just doesn’t work, they removed nothing and just made my nails sticky so I just had to use my regular nail polish remover.  If they had worked I would have been so happy, they would have been perfect for travel and much easier to use than cotton balls.

All in all I am very happy with this seasons Parcel and I can’t wait for the next one.  Do you subscribe to The Parcel?  Are there any other subscriptions that I should check out?

What’s In My Handbag!

IMG_1156I love looking at what people carry around with them in their bags so I thought it might be fun for you to see what I’ve got lying around in my bag!  My bag of choice at the moment is the Longchamp Le Pilage Large Tote in Black – I have to say this is the best bloody purchase I have ever made!  Its just such a simple bag that literally holds everything I need, I use it pretty much everyday to take to uni so I often have my laptop and all of my books and it manages to fit it all!  It is also super comfortable, the straps are super long so they always fit over my shoulder even when I have a big bulky coat on.  I’ll definitely be taking this little beauty with me to Europe at the end of the year.

My current wallet if from an Australian brand called Tilkah – its a beautiful tan leather with a bright pink stone on the clip.  I love this wallet because it is seriously huge!  I love it if I’m just heading to the shops, I can chuck my phone and keys into the zipper compartment and that’s all I need.  Its just a really handy all in one wallet that gets a lot of use.

Now I am a four eyes!  I am pretty darn blind without my glasses so I need to have them with me at all times!  My sunglasses are prescription ones that I get done at OPSM, the frames are Emporio Armani.  These are probably about the second or third pair of prescription sunglasses I’ve had over the last couple of years, I have a tendency to leave them places especially at pubs after a few cheeky daytime drinks!  I’ve been getting my optical glasses online for the past couple of years, I just find they have a much larger range to choose from so I get my eyes tested at the optometrist and put the details in and a few weeks later I’ve got brand new glasses!  These particular ones are from Bonlook in the style Bis Ebony Granite, I’m really loving this rounded style at the moment and I love the little touch of tortoise shell in the corners.

My all time handbag essentials are pretty self explanatory, I always carry paracetamol with me, you just never know when a headache will hit.  I also always keep a muesli bar with me, I travel to Newcastle a lot so I always like to have something to snack on whilst I’m on the train, I’m loving the 247 Salted Caramel and Banana with Quinoa, they’re pretty healthy and very filling.  For those long days a little of bit of deodorant is essential!  I love the little travel size ones that Rexona do, they don’t take up any room plus they last for quite a while.  Finally I always have to have a pen with me, I don’t know why but I do, this is just a little one I picked up in India, I thought it was quite fun and cute.

Now for the really fun stuff, makeup!  I try not to carry too much with me but I somehow end up always having a million lipsticks floating around in the bottom of my bag!  First up is the Chanel Les Beige Healthy Glow Sheer Powder – as an oily girl I always need to have powder with m, this one is great as it always look super natural plus it has a bit of coverage in it.  I also carry with me the Rimmel Wake Me Up Concealer – this is for when I need to cover anything that needs a bit more oomph than just the powder.  To blend all that in I use the Real Techniques Duo Fibre Contour Brush – by the looks of this photo is definitely needs a good wash but I use this just the blend the concealer or powder over large surfaces of my face.  I feel I’ve been quite restrained with my lip products here and I can assure you I end up with more in there by the end of the week but I start with the Yves Saint Laurent Tint in Oil Cherry My Cherie – this is probably the one I use most on a day to day basis, its moisturising plus it adds a fair bit of colour to the lips.  Second is the NYX Matte Lipstick in Audrey – I love this lipstick so much!  Its my perfect pink shade and when I add the Rimmel Exaggerate Lip Liner in East End Snob underneath it I know it’s going to last all day.  For when I want a red lip I have the Revlon Colorburst Matte Balm in Striking – I love having a red option in my bag especially for when I’m doing something after work or uni I can just whack this on with the MAC Pro Longwear Lip Pencil in High Energy on underneath and I have a red lip that will last all night!  I think carrying lip liners in my bag are a great idea, they can make your lipstick last a lot longer and if your lipstick is starting to wear off a little on the edges you can just touch it up with the lip liner.  For lip balm I have the luxurious By Terry Baume De Rose – I can’t believe I spent this much money on a lip balm but I really is the most beautiful balm I have ever used on my lips!  It adds a subtle pink touch to your lips and it lasts for so damn long so I don’t feel as bad for spending the money.

IMG_1170Last but not least at this time of year I always carry a scarf around with my, I really feel the cold in winter so I really need a scarf to add that extra bit of warmth, this one is quite big so it can double as a shawl as well.  I picked this up in a little town in the middle of nowhere in India, its made out camel wool which is what makes it so warm!  I just loved the colour and patterns on it and I knew I would regret it if I didn’t buy it.

So there you go that’s what’s in my handbag, this is probably on a perfect day, by the end of the week god only knows what’s found its way in there!

What do you carry around with you in your bag?

My Top 5 Drugstore Beauty Products!

To follow up from my top 5 high end beauty products I though I would share with you my top 5 drugstore items!  Drugstore beauty products are some of the best out there and I would like to think I have a great mixture of drugstore and high end products and to be honest, in every day use I probably head for drugstore products most!

First up is a holy grail product for me, its the Covergirl Outlast Stay Fabulous Foundation – I own a lot of foundations yet I still gravitate to this one a lot!  It’s perfect for me as it keeps my oily skin shine free for most of the day and has a brilliant amount of coverage.  What more could a girl ask for in a foundation!  I also have a whole post dedicated to this foundation here if you want to find out more.

Next up is a product that I will always have in my makeup draw its the Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Dark Circle Eraser – this is one of the only products that truly covers my serious dark circles!  It has a good whack of coverage yet is so light and doesn’t cake at all.  I love apply this with my beauty blender to get a very natural finish then I place some powder over the top to really keep it in place.

When it comes to eye shadows I tend towards the high end products however these Maybelline Colour Tatoo cream shadows really are brilliant!  They have a great colour range including this one in Pomegranate Punk as well as being brilliantly pigmented.  I have a couple of these in my stash but this one is particularly beautiful, it blends like a dream and really pops against my green eyes.

IMG_1147For mascaras I am pretty much strictly a drugstore girl with the exception of benefit, and this Covergirl Clump Crusher Extensions is my absolute favourite!  I have gone through about 8 of these beauties and use it pretty much every day, it has the perfect formula and the brush perfectly separates every single lash leaving you with long separated and fluttery lashes.  Plus this is the only mascara that does not smudge on my lower lashes so even when I am using another mascara this is always on my bottom lashes.

Time for lips!  This is the Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet in Ole Flamingo! – These liquid lipsticks rival any of the high end ones if you ask me.  They have a beautiful shade range and much creamier than some of there competitors, as well as being easy to apply they last for an extremely long time which is perfect if you want a bright lip without having to worry about touch up throughout the day.

So there you go my top 5 drugstore beauty products!  Have you got any drugstore suggestions that I can add to this list?

My Top 5 High End Beauty Products

Who doesn’t love a good old high end product?  That feeling when you’ve saved up all your pennies and bring home a little beauty.  So here I am sharing my top 5 high end beauty products, I think these products are also a great starting point for anyone who wants to get into the high end game.

Lets start of with a base product. Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation – is one of my all time favourite foundations!  Now as I have said a bazillion times I am a very oily skinned girl and you with think the term luminous would turn me off but I just heard so many brilliant things that I had to try it.  As you may have guessed I was not disappointed!  This foundation has a great amount of coverage, it doesn’t cake or cling to dry patches and it lasts for a long darn time.  Now this little beauty also does not go shiny on my skin which I at first found hard to believe myself but It honestly doesn’t it just adds this beautiful lit from within glow without being greasy at all!  Its is fairly pricey but I know that when this bottle runs out I will definitely be repurchasing.

Now how can you talk about high end products without talking about Chanel!  This product is the Chanel Illusion Dombre Eyeshadow in Emerveille – This is a stunning pinky champagne colour that looks amazing by itself or can also be used for a brilliant base colour.  These eyeshadows have a very odd texture, they feel creamy yet powdery at the same time, this means they are super, super easy to blends and they don’t crease.  They are also really long lasting, so pretty much the perfect eyeshadow.

Sticking with the eyes I thought it would be wise to pick an eyeshadow palette.  Now I have many, many palettes so it was extremely hard to pick but I feel like the Urban Decay Naked 1 palette really has it all!  It has a beautiful combination of warm and cool tones as well a great range of browns pinks and even some dark greys.  I am absolutely obsessed with the colour toasted as well as the matte colours and smog and, you know what I love them all!  It really is a great palette that has everything you will ever need!  I even managed to convince my cousin to pick this up whilst we were in Singapore, and as expected she adores it.

Everything I have tried from Charlotte Tilbury’s range it bloomin amazing!  The Charlotte Tilbury Rock n Kohl Eyeliner in Barbarella Brown – is no exception!  It is a highly highly pigmented eyeliner which glides on so easily and opaque which is exactly what you want in an eyeliner.  I use this baby for everything, to add some definition on my upper lash line, do a winged liner, and use tin the upper and lower waterline.  This is perfect for all of those things plus it does not budge once it sets.  This is one eyeliner that will always be in my supply.

Now I’m sure you all guessed that this is my would be in here!  I have an absolute love affair with the Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Cruella –  It is my all time favourite lip product, they have beautiful shades, they are super long lasting and so easy to apply.  If I was to recommend a high end lip product this would be it!

So there you go my top 5 high end beauty products!  Next up I am going to show you my top 5 drugstore beauty products so stay tuned.

Do you have any high end products to recommend?

My Favourite Liquid Lipsticks

As I’ve said time and time again I love matte lips!  So this new revolution of matte liquid lipsticks came around I new they would be my new best friend.  So in this post I’ve picked some of my favourite formulas as well as my favourite shades.

First up is a brilliant drugstore liquid lipstick, its the Bourgeois Rouge Edition Velvet in Ole Flamingo! – This is such a creamy and easy to use product plus it comes in some amazing shades!  This shade is a stunning dark pink that is seriously perfect all year round.  Now this one isn’t as long lasting as some of the other but the upside to that is that it is much creamier and not as drying on the lips.  Next up is the Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Bauhau5 – This brand is fairly new to me but I have heard such amazing things about it that I new I had to try them.  This shade is perfect for the winter weather, its a beautiful purple berry shade which I can’t wait to get some wear out of.  The next one is a little controversial Lime Crime Velvetine in Suedeberry – Now I bought these before I was aware of all the controversy and because I don’t like to waste I’m still using them however, i won’t be repurchasing.  This shade is a bright orange colour which really makes a statement, I love wearing this with minimal eye makeup to really make it pop.  Another orangy shade is the Australis Velour Lips Matte Lip Cream in Mi-am-mee – Australis is a really great brand especially for bright colours!  These lip creams are no exception, this shade is a bright coral orange that looks brilliant in summer and much like the Bourjois one it feels quite creamy.  Now to double up I had to include another shade of the Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet in Peach Club – This shade is a brilliant everyday product that I do wear a lot!  This is perfect for when I have a long day and want something to last, and when it does fade it’s not as noticeable as the bright ones.  Finally it’s the product that introduced me to liquid lipsticks the Lime Crime Velvetine in Pink Velvet – This is a beautiful hot, hot pink!  I love this lipstick with some sheer sparkly eyeshadow and a winged liner, perfect for a party night!

So there you go my favourite liquid lipsticks, I hope they are here to stay!  Are there any other brands or shades you can recommend?

Night Time Skincare Routine

I try so hard with skincare, but sometimes I’m really not sure what I’m doing!  So lately I’ve been reading up on skincare on Caroline Hirons website trying to get a real understanding of what my routine should be and heres what I’ve got so far.

My first step is using the Ren Rosa Centifolia Hot Cloth Cleanser to thoroughly cleanse my skin.  If I’m wearing a lot of makeup I will take that off with the Garnier Micellar Water first, I’m sure many people would double cleanser with the Ren cleanser but to be honest I don’t have enough money to go through it that quickly!  Next up I use a serum the Loreal Skin Perfection Serum this really smooths my skin out and is a great light layer to add to my skin first.  This one is pretty much finished but I’m not really sure weather I should repurchase this or try something else.  After this one I use a fairly new product to me, something I bought in India to save my skin after some serious neglect.  Its The Body Shop Vitamin E Overnight Serum-In-Oil – I’d never really though of using an oil on my skin before seen as I would call myself a very oily girl however, after the disastrous state it was in after India I was willing to try anything!  I’ve been using this consistently for a month now and I really do think I am seeing a difference, my skin is smoother and more plump and its slowly, slowly getting rid of my dry patches on my cheeks.

IMG_1040After the oil comes another serum because apparently two are not enough!  So I use my Indeed Laboratories Hydraluron – Caroline said that hydroluron is the last step as it is quite thick, at this stage I’m not sure whether this itself is making a difference to my skin or whether its a combination of everything so I think i’ll just keep using it as it seems to be working with everything else.  Finally I use a night time moisturiser its the Origins High Potency Night-A-Mins – I love this night cream because it isn’t extremely thick!  Most night creams I’ve tried are ridiculously thick and I just find them suffocating but this is lovely and light and sinks into the skin immediately.  Now for bonus time!  Two or three times a week I use the Origins Drink Up Intensive Overnight Mask – this gives a major shot of moisture! You put it on that night and wake up with baby soft skin that looks beautifully plump.

As I am not expert in the skincare world I’m still not sure if I’m doing this right so If you have any tips or suggestions I would much appreciate it!

What I’ve Been Wearing This Week!

It’s time again to show you what I’ve been wearing and loving this week.  I haven’t had much on this week, I have just been attached to my laptop as it’s the end of semester and of course all of my assignments are due at once!  When I have ventured out in public looking at little worse for wear this has been my go to look.

For my base I’ve been using my trust old Cyber Colors Zero Pore Primer – I know I can’t trust this to make my makeup last all day with minimum shine woohoo!  For foundation I have discovered a new go to base, it’s the Tarte Amazonian Clay BB Tinted Moisturiser to that I add 1-2 drops of the Cover FX Custom Cover Drops-I love this tinted moisturiser but sometimes it just isn’t enough coverage for me so the custom cover drops really up the ante coverage wise and give me quite a full coverage yet light feeling look.  As I’ve been studying pretty hard and not getting a whole lot of sleep i’ve been sticking to my holy grail dark circle covering duo Napoleon Perdis The One Concealer and Maybelline Age Rewind Dark Circle Eraser – I just know I can trust this duo to cover all manner of darkness so its been my absolute go to at the moment.

To set all this I have been using the Bourjois Healthy Balance Powder – this keeps me matte whilst making my makeup last considerably longer.  To add some colour to my face I’ve been favouring an oldie but a goodie its Milani Baked Powder Blush in Luminoso – This adds a subtle pinky peach colour to my cheeks plus a bit of shimmer so there is not need for a highlight in this case.  What a time saver!

For the eyes I used one of my absolute favourite eyeshadow palettes, I originally didn’t know how I felt about the pink shades when I first got this but as soon as it was in my hands I fell in love!  They are such beautiful shades and looking stunning on my eyelids.  I turn to this palette a lot.  So for this look I placed Burnout all over the lids the place a mixture of  Liar and Factory in the crease, this is quite a subtle girly look but the darkness in the crease really adds some dimension to the eye.  I also put a touch of Dust in the inner corner of my eye.

Now I didn’t want to really do a thick liner or anything so I just tightlined my top lashine with the Charlotte Tilbury Rock N Kohl in Barbarella Brown – This makes my lashes look fuller without a proper liner look.  As I said I’ve been studying a lot so my eyes are quite tired and red so I decided to really brighten them up with the Charlotte Tilbury Rock N Kohl in Eye Cheat – this Charlotte Tilbury one is the only skin coloured eyeliner that seems to stay on my waterline all day so I absolutely love it!  For mascara I’ve been using my trusty old Covergirl Clump Crusher Extensions – I just love this mascara, I mean don’t get me wrong I love some high end mascaras but every single time I go back to my Covergirl Clump Crusher I just fall back in love with it!  Plus this is the only mascara I can use on my bottom lashes that won’t smudge!  Finally for eyebrows I used something quick and easy, Tom Ford Brow Sculptor in Taupe – I can quickly do my brows with this and as the colour isn’t too dark its quite hard to make a mistake with it and on top of that I used the Benefit Gimme Brow in Medium/Deep – this just darkens the pencil up a bit to match my hair and sets those things in place!

Now I haven’t mentioned lipstick but I haven’t really been wearing any, as its winter my lips have been so dry that I’ve just been sticking to lip balm

So that’s what I’ve been wearing this week!  What have you been loving this week?

May Favourites!

It’s that time of the month, favourites time!  May has been a quiet month but it hasn’t stopped me from finding a few things to love!

First up is a product I bought this month and already love it!  Its the YSL Fusion Ink Foundation in B20 – this foundation is just so smoothing on the skin as well as being super super easy to apply.  It also lasts all dang day which is what I’m really looking for in a foundation.  There has been a bit of fuss about the amount of alcohol in the product but to be honest I haven’t noticed it doing anything abnormal to my skin.  I honestly think this will be a favourite for a long time.  Next up is something I bought in India to try and fix my dehydrated skin but when I got home I kind of forgot about it.  It’s The Body Shop Vitamin E Serum-in-oil –  Over the last month when my skin was feeling particularly scaly I pulled this one out and it has made an amazing difference!  I use it at night after my other serums and it just sinks in the skin and I wake up with beautiful soft and plump skin.  Lips wise I haven’t been able to stop wearing the YSL Volute Tint- in -Oil in No 5 Cherry My Cherie – this one is unique to me, I am normally not a gloss girl however, I thought the oil would be a real help in the winter months.  This is beautifully nourishing and leaves a lovely bright pink tint behind.  I wear this a lot to uni or work when I don’t want to be reapplying lipstick all day.

Eyes wise I have been sticking to a simple look of Makeup Geek Eyeshadow in Latte and Rimmel Gel Eyeliner in Black – I use Latte through my crease to get some definition and then smudge a thin line of the Rimmel liner on the top lash line.  This is just a great classic look that looks amazing on anyone plus it doesn’t matter what lipstick I wear with it whether it be nude or bright.  Finally I’ve been switching up my eyebrow products a lot lately and I’ve rediscovered my Natio Brow Kit in Light Medium – I used to use this religiously, which you can probably tell by the state of it, its just a simple powder but it just really seems to work on my brows.  It comes in two shades as well which is great for me as I seem to change my hair colour a lot!  I don’t use the wax that comes with it anymore I normally just add a clear gel over the top.  I just think this is a brilliant product at such a good price!

So there you go, May favourites!  What have been your favourites this month?
