Winter Nails

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I am obsessed with winter nails shades, this deep berry shades and red wine shades – oh my! Seeing as winter is still going strong I thought I would share my favourite winter nail polishes.

First up is an oldie but a goodie OPI Lincoln Park After Dark – for a long time this is all I would wear on my nails even in the summer! It’s such a deep, deep purple shade that almost looks black. It’s such a winter staple that looks incredibly chic its an absolute winner!  For a deep red wine colour I love the Nails Inc Gel Effect in Kensignton High St – this is a stunning deep burgundy red wine shade which looks lovely on the nails and I mean anything close to red wine, I’m in! The gel effect is great as well, it’s last a super long time on you nails which is always a bonus!  Sticking with nails inc I have been obsessed with the Victoria Beckham for Nails Inc in Judo Red – when these came to Australia I couldn’t get to Sephora quick enough to snatch them up! And of course I had to get both shades because I am me and can’t help myself. I think any shade of red even the orangy shades are perfect for winter. A red nail much like a red lip is a girls best friend! Much like the gel effect these last a bloody long time!  Another red shade I love for winter is OPI Malaga Wine – my lovely cousin bought this one for me and I can’t thank her enough! This is just the absolute perfect red wine shade for my skin tone, if I’m really pale it looks edgy and vampy and if I’m tanned it just looks like a beautiful deep red. At the moment if I haven’t got the on my fingernails I definitely have it on my toenails! It just looks so classic and chic on my toenails that I haven’t bothered straying from it.  Next up is Chanel Paradoxal – I mean you can’t go wrong with Chanel, am I right? This is one of those kind of two toned shades that’s purple with a tiny bit of green. I love layering this on top of a really dark shade as well to get a real depth to it.  Finally its a quite new one to me the Burberry Metallic Khaki- this is a beautiful khaki glitter shade that I just couldn’t go past when I saw it in Singapore, this cost a bloody arm and leg but you know what I had to have it! This khaki shade seems to be very in right now so I’ve been getting a lot of use out of it. Now it doesn’t last as long as the Nails inc ones but that is to be expected from a glitter polish but I love it anyway!

So there you go my top winter nail shades! What are you go to winter ail polishes?

Empties

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I love reading and watching people’s empties blogs, they are really helpful as you can find out exactly what someone thought about the product after they have used it all up!  So over the last couple weeks and months I’ve been saving up my empty products to do a review on what I thought of them.

First up is Nars Laguna Bronzer – This is not the first one of these I have gone through, I love the stuff!  It is so worth the hype, its not too warm which allows it to look natural.  This is a product I use pretty much everyday so I have already replaced this and got a new one on the go.

The Origins Drink up Intensive Overnight Mask – Is my absolute saviour! I discovered this a couple of months ago and have been using it two nights a week since I bought it.  I put it on freshly cleansed skin before I go to bed and I wake up with bright plump and hydrated skin.  This has been especially brilliant in winter and it really helps the dry patches on my jawline ease up a bit and not look so obvious.  I am repurchasing this little beauty next week!

Another skincare item is Indeed Laboratories Hydroluron – Another skin saviour! This is the product I use to really add some hydration to my skin, its an integral part of my skincare routine so I will definitely be repurchasing this one.

I was very sad to run out of one of my favourite scents Narciso Rodriguez For Her – I bought this one years ago but It has been in consistent rotation, its such a musky wintery scent which is perfect for this time of year.  Another reason I’m sad it’s empty.  Look I probably won’t repurchase this one yet, I have so many perfumes that it would probably be a waste of money but I would definitely recommend it.

Next up is Ren Rosa Centafolia Hot Cloth Cleanser – I thoroughly enjoyed this product!  It’s a cream product that you use on dry skin and then it turns into a kind of oil, it is perfect for removing makeup, it gets every single trace of makeup off your skin.  It’s also very nourishing on the face and quite hydrating which has been great for the Autumn and Winter months.  I haven’t repurchased this yet as I am using a Lush one at the moment but I would love to repurchase it in the future.

The Lanolips 101 Ointment – is bloody brilliant!  Its so thick and nourishing and its the perfect lip balm for seriously chapped lips.  I took this one with me to India and it saved my lips, I was using it a thousand times a day!  It was especially brilliant for the plane trip as well.  I will definitely be taking another one when I go to Europe.

Finally I have been using the Oral B 3D White Whitestrips – I have never tried these before but I had heard such great things that I wanted to give them ago.  At first I was using them twice a day on top and bottom teeth however, the made my teeth super super sensitive especially on my bottom teeth so I cut it down to once a day and on my bottom teeth every second day.  These worked really quickly!  I noticed a change within three days of using them, not that my teeth were too yellow but now they are amazingly white.  I’m definitely heading back to chemist warehouse to get some more of these.

So there you go, some empty products I’ve been using and loving!  What products have you finished up?  Did you enjoy them?

My First Ever Lipgloss!

I have never been a lipgloss kind of gal, I always found them sticky and way too shiny!  So I haven’t used a lipgloss in around a decade.  This all changed a week ago when I was perusing the Urban Decay stand in Mecca Maxima in Bondi Junction, whilst my cousin was on the search for the perfect brown pencil I was on the search to add something new to my already ridiculously large collection.  I came across the new Urban Decay Revolution High-Colour Lipglosses – now for a while now I have been looking for the perfect subtle everyday lip colour that I can just slap on with any makeup look.  So when I wandered past these lip glosses I was drawn to the shade Failbait, it’s a dusty rose shade that when swatched still had plenty of colour without the opaqueness of a lipstick.  This is what got me, I can still have the exact colour that I love without it being as stark and opaque as a my many matte lipsticks, it adds that beautiful colour with a subtle glossy shine that looks stunning on the lips.  So naturally when I found this I was heading straight to the counter to purchase it.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

The verdict:  I am in love!  To the detriment of my bank account I have found a whole new line of lip products to delve into and go crazy with.

Now that I have discovered lip glosses I need your help!  What are some good options for me to try out?

Palette Challenge!

I have my fair share of palettes!  I really feel like I don’t get enough use of them so I am setting myself a challenge, I am going to use each palette for three weeks straight so I get some solid use out of all of them and really see how many looks I can get out of each one of them.  So where to start…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

How about I start with an oldie but a goodie!  The original Urban Decay Naked palette!  I’ve gotten so much use out of this since purchasing and I still reach for it on a weekly basis, they are all such beautiful shades and textures that I just can’t go past it sometimes.  My particular favourites are the pinky shade toasted as well as the two matte shades naked and buck which I probably use the most so I think this challenge will make me venture out from those shades and use some different ones.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Next up I thought I would go with the Stila Eyes are the Window to the Soul – Mind – This palette is completely matte with a mixture of warm and cool colours that I picked up earlier this year in Singapore.  To be honest I haven’t used this a hell of a lot and I’m not sure why, the colours are stunning and the texture is amazing so at least now I’ll get a lot of use out.  I think I’ll be very excited to see what I can do with this palette.

This little treasure is the Sleek I Divine Oh So Special Palette – this was such a bargain that I just couldn’t go past it!  It has served me well over the years however, I haven’t used in quite a while.  From memory the matte shades aren’t super easy to work with but I think they’ll go alright for transition colours but I do remember the shimmers being really pigmented and creamy so it should be fun to use this again!

What is not to love about the Lorac Pro Palette?!  It’s just so versatile and such amazing quality that I’m so happy to have it in my collection.  Now it is looking a little grubby but thats just because I freakin love it and use it so much!  Like my promise with the naked palette I am going to try and do some different looks than usual to get out of comfort zone and mix things up.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

This one is my collection of single eyeshadows from MAC and Makeup Geek – I think I can do some pretty spiffy looks with the combination of colours in my Z Palette, I’ve personally picked out the colours so i know most of them go together, especially the makeup geek ones. Again I have a mixture of mattes and shimmers so lets see what I can do with them all!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

This palette is a little worse for wear, I took this to India and Singapore and was so happy it came with me!  It’s the Nars And God Created the Woman Palette – I didn’t use it everyday but when I wanted to add a little somthin somethin I used some of the subtle colour and when we were going out at night I got to crack out the shimmers and darker shades.  Of course Nars have not disappointed with the quality and the shades and this is definitely the perfect travel palette, compact without sacrificing shades and quality.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

This palette is a bit of a novelty but I still love it.  It’s The Balm Jovi Rockstar Palette – the names are gimmicky to perfection and the quality is also incredible!  It’s pretty much all you want in a palette, especially as I have green eyes, the purples are perfect!  I was really shocked at how pigmented and creamy they were as well!  An added bonus is the highlighter and blush that are in the palette, as expected from The Balm they are pure heaven!  The Disco Disco highlighter is a subtler version of the Marylouminser and the blush is the perfect shade of peach.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Finally I am going to finish with what I think is probably my favourite palette the Urban Decay Naked 3 – I love this palette so much!  As expected from Urban Decay the quality is exquisite and the colour range is perfection, again these colours are perfect for my green eyes which is probably why I keep going back to it.

So there you go my palette challenge is set and I can’t wait to get started!  Three weeks of each palette and a chance to be more adventurous with my combinations.  What do you all think of this challenge?  Would you like to join?

Korean Skincare

IMG_1278

I’ve been hearing a lot about Korean skincare lately and I’ve been doing some research on the kind of products they use everyday.  Something that really struck me was the importance of toners and essences so this really made me want to try it out.  I went to beautynetKorea to see what I could get my hands on.

I’m currently quite happy with my cleanser and moisturiser so I really wanted to try a new toner and a new serum.  Now my skin type is combination/oily yet in winter I get some dry patches along my jawline that is really not attractive when my makeup clings to it!  So I was looking for something that would hydrate those areas yet wouldn’t make my make me look really shiny with makeup on.  I spotted the Secret Key Rose Floral Softening Toner – this promises to soften the skin which I though would be perfect to soften up this icky dry patches and hydrate the skin without the abrasiveness of a lot of toners.  This toner is really beautiful and refreshing, it refreshes the skin whilst adding some moisture to the skin. I’ve been using this for about a month now and I really think its working!  I use this after I wash my fine and it has been leaving my skin nice and soft as well as plump.  Next I heard about the popularity of essences, this is a water substance that has a shed load of transforming properties and will add brightness and clarity to your skin, what’s not to love about that? This is the Tony Moly Intense Care –  I use this one straight after the toner. I love these two products because they are super moisturising yet it doesn’t feel like you have a thousand products on your face, they are so thin that it just feels like you have splashed your face with water.  After this step I use the Deep Sea Marine Collagen Ampoule – this is a type of serum that is super concentrated and is full of all the good stuff.  This particular one offers a collagen boost as well a a lot of hydration, this again is a beautifully thin substance so I use this morning and night and it doesn’t add any greasiness to my skin.  This ampoule literally plumps up my skin on touch, I can noticeably see the difference when I am applying it, it clears the skin by smoothing it out and just adds some supple plumpness giving me a very youthful look.   At night I put this on after the essence and before my hydroluron and night cream.

Now as these products were pretty darn cheap I wasn’t convinced that they were going to do anything spectacular to my skin however, I can now eat my words!  Over the past month my skin has been looking better and better, it is really well hydrated, super plump from the ampoule and it has a lot more clarity to it.  I still do have a bit of redness but my skin in general is much clearer and has a much better look and texture.  I honestly think I am now a convert to Korean skincare, they definitely know what they are doing!

Brush Essentials – Eyes

IMG_1281

I have to admit I am a bit of a brush addict, just like everything else involved in beauty I have to have them all!  So I thought I would share with you my eye brush essentials.  I can do any look I want with these brushes whether it be simple or a complicated smokey look.

To start off with its the most versatile brush of them all!  It’s the MAC 217 – the holy grail of the blending world, I use this every single day and every single look I do.  On a day to day basis I use this to deposit a a wash of eyeshadow over the entire lid and sometimes I just leave it at that.  I also use this to do a very diffused shading in the crease for an very natural look.  Next up is the Zoeva 224 Luxe Defined Crease – I use this little one for when I want a bit more of a defined crease, its a very little and soft brush that deposits are fair whack of colour in the crease, I can also really pinpoint where I want the colour to go.  The Sigma E40 Tapered Blending Brush – This solves all my blending issues, its a wonder tool in my eyes.  I mainly use this brush in two ways, firstly I sweep across a transition shade in the crease or secondly to blend everything seamlessly once I have finished an eye look.  This brush just makes both of these things so incredibly easy.  Next up is the Zoeva 231 Luxe Petit Crease Brush – I use this brush to really define my crease, if I want to use a dark shade to just add a bit more definition in the crease this is my go to brush.  I also use this for any colour that’s going on my lower lash line and it makes blending under there a synch!  This is perfect for highlighting the tear duct as well.  The Nars Smudge Brush – does exactly what it is called, smudges the hell out of everything!  I use this to smudge any eyeliner that I put on my top lash line with just a few sweeps of this brush you get the perfect ‘lived in’ eyeliner look.  It’s also perfect for the same thing on the lower lash line.  Finally the brush that we all need for the perfect winged liner, the Sigma E65 Small Angle Brush – I really love this small liner brush, its nice and fine which allows me to have a lot more precision when I’m doing my liner.  Its quite a stiff brush as well so there is very little bending or movement from the brush which can be detrimental to any liner look!

So there you have it my essential eye brushes.  Can you suggest any brushes I may need to add to my collection?

Rediscovered Products

IMG_1289

As a beauty addict I have so many products that it’s inevitable that I forget about some products and that some just find their way to the back of my draw.  So the other day I went digging for products that I haven’t used for a long time and need to be back in my beauty life!

To start with its the Revlon Photoready Skinlights in Bare Light – As I am an oily skinned girl I have to get my glow on in ways that don’t make my skin look shiny and oily just lit from within.  I remember this product being perfect for this!  I used it underneath my foundation which made the glow look really natural but made me look alive instead of just matte and flat.  I used this again the other day and it really is a little beaut, I’m not sure why it made its way to the back of my draw but it will definitely be going back into rotation.  Another base products I have neglected is the Hourglass Immaculate Liquid Powder Foundation – I purchased this as it was described as the oily girls dream so how could I not go for it?  In summer I fell in love!  It would last on my skin all day without moving or sliding off my face and staying pretty much matte till the end.  This is a very matte foundation so I used in in conjunction with the Revlon Skinlights and it just added a subtle glow without it losing its staying power.  I know that when it starts to get a bit warmer this will be my go to foundation.

To liven my face up I’ve rediscovered my Nars Adult Content Cheek Palette – This is a do it all palette, its got a natural blush a bright blush a highlighter and a brown blush that can be used as a bronzer and a highlighter.  The reason I rediscovered this one is the thought of travel, I will be heading to Europe in January (A long way away yet I’m still excited) and as soon as I thought of this trip my mind immediately went to what makeup will I take?!  This little bundle will be perfect!  It’s got everything I need and I absolutely love the shade Deep Throat for everyday use and Desire for party time.  Unfortunately this was a limited edition palette however, Nars are constantly coming out with cheek palettes and they are all amazing!  Finally its a stunning lip colour, Rimmel Lasting Finish by Kate in 107 – I rediscovered this beauty from a little known youtuber called Zoella, you might not know her, she only has 8 millions followers (haha).  She is a major fan of this lipstick and after seeing her wear this in so many videos I knew I had to bring this back for winter, it’s.  This one is a brand spanking new tube, I seem to have misplaced my old one or used it up but boy oh boy am I glad I bought a new one!  It’s the perfect winter shade of a deep red wine and even looks brilliant with my very pale skin winter skin.

So there are my most recent rediscovered products!  Are there any products that you have rediscovered lately?

Must Have Mascara’s

IMG_1291

I don’t leave the house without a slick of mascara on my eyes, it just adds that oomph that makes me look alive and not a zombie.  So today I though I would share with you my all time favourite mascaras!

IMG_1293

First up is probably not a shock to anyone who has ever read this blog, I write about it all the bloody time!  It’s the Covergirl Clump Crusher Extensions – This is a beautiful subtle mascara that literally separates every single lash and gives your lashes that real fanned out effect.  It’s also perfect for layering up as the name suggests it does not clump.  I would say that I use this mostly on day to day occasions but I know I will always have it in my stash.  I have tried so many drugstore and high end mascaras and this is the only one that does not smudge on my lower lash line so no matter what I use on my top lashes, this little baby is going on the bottom lashes.  Next up is Benefit Roller Lash – This has been a very hyped up product in the beauty world and for a good reason in my opinion.  It’s a super dramatic mascara that really gives your lashes a full on curl and full on black lashes.  At first I wasn’t the biggest fan as it was too wet and sort of clumped my lashes together but now I can’t get enough of the stuff!  I’ve even got my Mum converted to it!  I find this mascara super easy for when I am in a rush and just want something I can slick on my lashes in one coat and go.  Now to the drugstore end it’s the Jordana Best Lash Extreme Volumising Mascara – This one is so cheap that It’s definitely worth having in your stash.  Much like the Clump Crusher it really seperates every single lash leaving you with a doll eye effect, you get super long separated lashes which is my preffered look.  Again I found this mascara a little bit wet to begin with but after I continued to use it and it dried out a little bit I do really love it. Next up is a new one to my collection it’s the Max Factor Masterpeice Transform Mascara – I definitely wasn’t sure about this one to begin with but boy have I changed my tune!  It’s such a dramatic mascara that adds a butt load of volume and length as well as super black lashes,  Once you get the hang of the wand you can seriously get a dramatic look out of this baby.  Finally it’s the most hyped mascara launch I have ever seen Benefit They’re Real Mascara – I’m not usually one for hype and I end up getting things months after they come out but with this one I wanted it straight away!  Although this mascara is a pain in the arse to get off it is just beautiful!  It lengthens separates and with that little ball on the end you can really get in and cot ever single lash.  I think this is about my third tube of this and I know I will go back for more!

So there you go my mascara must haves!  What mascara are you loving at the moment?

Eyebrow Essentials

IMG_1024

As we all know eyebrows are key to any makeup look and I know that I never leave the hows without my brows on!  Over the years I have tried many, many products but for the moment these are my absolute favourites.

First up is the Tom Ford Brow Sculptor in Taupe – this really is a luxury brow product that I love!  It has an angled tip with makes it really easy to fill in all the little gaps and it quite hard which means it is very hard to go too dark or too overboard.  Next up is a definite bargain!  It’s the Essence Eyebrow Designer in Brunette – This is seriously cheap and seriously good!  Its a hard waxy pencil that just glides through the brows, it makes it really easy to use and I actually find myself reaching for this one more than my Tom Ford one.   To set these pencils I use the Benefit Gimme Brow in Light – This is perfect to add a little oomph to the brows as well as setting them in place.  I also use this by itself if i’m having a ‘no makeup makeup’ day.  I don’t think I could live without this product to be honest but I also really want to try out the Loreal version of this.  Finally is the Natio Brow Kit – This was my first foray into brow powders and i’m pretty sure its still my favourite.  The powders are quite hard so it doesn’t end up all over your face and gives you really perfected brows.  I often use this on a night out for when I really want my brows ‘on fleek’ (oh gosh I can’t believe I just said that!).

So there you go, my brow essentials!  What do you use on your brows?

June Favourites!

IMG_1264_2

Favourites time!  June has been and extremely busy month with lots of uni work and a major research paper due so I spent most of my month in my tracks locked to laptop.  However, when I did venture out of my study cocoon these are the products I have been using and loving.

First up is a little product that I picked up in Singapore, I had heard Vivianna Does Makeup rave about this products so I knew I had to give it a try.  It’s the Living Proof Perfect Hair Day 5-in-1 Styling Treatment –  Now I love everything beauty but with my hair I am a complete shocker!   I have no idea what I am doing so this little beaut saves me so much.  I add a little dob to my hair and brush it through, I blow dry it and then walk out the door.  It adds a brilliant amount of volume to my flat drab hair yet it also leaves it nice and smooth.  I would recommend this to anyone who like me doesn’t really know what they’re doing with their hair or anyone who just wants to pop something in their hair and be done with it.  Next up is my perfect base at the moment I use the Tarte Amazonian Clay BB Tinted Moisturiser in light medium and the Cover Fx Custom Cover Drops in N20 – This base has enough coverage to disguise all the thing that I don’t want anyone to be seeing plus it feels nice and light on the skin.  I have a whole post on why I love this combo as well as how I apply it here.  The next product is fairly new to me.  I asked a friend of mine to pick it up for me in Hawaii, now this friend is not obsessed with makeup and when she saw the price of this particular item I’m pretty sure she almost had a heart attack!  I think I remember the world ‘it’s just a friggen eyeshadow!’, but I wanted it so I got it and I don’t regret it for a second.  It’s the Giorgio Armani Eye Tint in 10 Senso – This is a beautiful dark brown shade with a little bit of warmth to it.  It’s so easy to use I just swipe it over the lids and blend it out, simple as that!  Finally its the Max Factor Masterpiece Transform Mascara – I received this in the Autumn Edit of Marie Claire’s Parcel.  I put off using it due to my ridiculously overflowing mascara collection, but I couldn’t resist it much longer I had to crack that baby open.  Boy am I glad I did!  This mascara is so dramatic, it adds bucket loads of volume whilst being extremely black it just a great mascara that gives you dramatic lashes with just a couple of swipes of the wand.  Now I do find this very wet so I do wipe the excess product off just so all my lashes don’t completely clump together but other than that I think I’ve found a winner!

So there you go, my June Favourites!  What were your favourites this month?
