August Favourites

I know I say it every month but I cannot believe August is over!  I have mixed emotions about this year going so quickly, on one hand it means I will have finally graduated university and will then be heading to Europe which is very exciting.  On the other hand it means uni is over and I have to enter the real world and get a grown up job and do grown up things!  No! But then on another hand again I will hopefully be earning real money and just think of all the amazing beauty items I can buy with that money!  Anyway back to August favourites, this month has been pretty busy with uni and travelling between that and work has been a lot.  At least with being this buys I have had a lot of makeup days which means a fair few makeup favourites so lets start.

First up is a hair favourite, it’s the Toni & Guy Rough Texturiser Spray – at the moment I have a shortish bob that really lends itself to a few curls and a lot of texture so after going through my hair with a curling wand I spray my hair thoroughly with the texture spray that gives it that nice lived in feel.  Next up is a foundation that promised a lot and certainly delivered, it’s the YSL Fusion Ink Foundation – this promises to be long lasting as well as feather light on the skin and boy dies it deliver on both!  This has been my go to foundation at the moment as it is super easy to apply, I just swipe the convenient applicator across my face a few times and quickly blend tin with a brush.  This foundation is one of those very watery products that dries to powder, this is a hint that it dries matte which is a bonus for my oily skin.  It also lasts an extremely long time, I’ve really tested this out on one of my long days full on trains and walking and it really stands up to the stress, no caking and minimal shine!  Sticking with the face I have really been enjoying the Bobbi Brown Blush in Sand Pink – I recently wrote about this in my make me blush post and I honestly forgot how beautiful and natural it looked, I’ve really been getting some use out of on days that I don’t want too much makeup on and just want a very subtle flush.  It’s also matte so it really just looks like you’ve been standing out in the cold for a little bit.  Im always on the search for a perfect eyebrow product so when the L’Oreal Brow Artist Plumper in Medium/Dark came out I knew I needed to give it a go.  Now I thoroughly enjoyed Benefit’s gimme brow so when this came out I was hoping that this would be my drugstore answer, now it isn’t exactly the same but in some ways I think I like it better.  The brush is slightly bigger which isn’t really a bother but what I like most about this is its holding power!  I have quite unruly brows so this really keeps them in place without being too crunchy, another bonus is the size, this is much bigger than the benefit one so it will last me a hell of a lot longer.  To the lips now, so I’m officially a lip gloss convert and after some suggestions from you lovely readers I headed over to the NYX stand and checked their glosses out.  I settled on the NYX Butter Gloss in Angel Food Cake – These glosses are super buttery like the name suggests and not one bit sticky, thank god. This colour is also perfect for me, it’s that beautiful combination of pink and brown, very natural and very wearable.  I also just love the fact that I can slap this on without needing a mirror.  If I want to step it up a notch I pair it with MAC’s Whirl lip pencil which just adds an extra bit of oomph.  Finally I have a nail favourite, it’s the Maybelline Colour Show in Pinkalicious – This is just a really pretty muted neon pink shade which is really making me look forward to spring!  Now the formula is great to apply yet it doesn’t really last that long, I put this on my nails on Saturday and it started chipping by Monday so not a great wear length but for price I’m not too mad.

So there you go another month another favourites.  What have been your favourites in August?

Tan Time

I love the look of freshly tanned skin, the feeling of just been on holiday even though you haven’t.  When it comes to self tanning I can be quite lazy, I want it to be and painless when applying and I want it to dry immediately which I know is not really possible when it comes to at home tanning.  However, I have now find this little beauty which has changed my tanning life!  It’s the ST.Tropez Self Tan Express Bronzing Mousse – This promises to give you a sun kissed tan within one hour, now it says that on the bottle however, when you read further into it I found that it was one hour for a light tan and 3 for a deep tan so clearly I go for the 3 hours, I’m not going through all that effort just for the hint of a tan!  So what I do with this beauty is make sure I exfoliate the day before applying, I then pump a generous amount on my tanning mitt and apply an even coat all over my body.  I have to concentrate on my chest area as well, it really seems to eat up the tan and not get a nice deep colour for some reason.  The think I love most about this tan is that it dries so quickly!  There is no sitting around waiting fanning yourself waiting for it do dry, it’s pretty much just apply and get dressed and wait for the tan to develop.  After about 3 hours or maybe 3 and a half, I jump in the shower and lightly wash it off with a body wash, then viola you have a beautiful sun kissed tan!  It also continues to develop for a further 8 hours so do not be afraid if you don’t look super tanned after your shower.  I love this stuff so much because it doesn’t give you any orange tones whatsoever it’s an extremely natural bronzed look which is think is due to the olive tone coloured mousse.  Another major bonus of this tan is the wear time, I’ve currently be wearing this tan for a week and have not had to exfoliate it off, it wears away very naturally, not patchy which means less work for me in the long run!

All in all I think this is a must have for any tan lover out there, the convenience of being able to tan without having to sleep in it and worry about stains on your sheets or being all smelly is a major bonus.  I think this is an item that I will always have in my arsenal.

Have you tried this product?  What are your favourite tanning products?

Long Lasting Foundation

As many of my readers know I have quick only skin so I am always on the hunt for the next new foundation that claims to be mattifying and long lasting.  When the L’oreal Infallible 24 Hour Matte foundation came out I knew I had to get my hands on it quickly!  I bought this about 2 months ago now and I really wanted to give it a good old work out before I made my mind up and told all of you what I though about it.  Well I have given it a serious work out and I have to tell you it is a miracle!  First lets talk about the application, I still use a primer so my foundation really has a good chance at lasting then I apply this with my favourite Sigma Flat Top Kabuki.  I really work it into the skin so it looks seamless, it blends super easily and has a brilliant amount of coverage.  As I have fairly patchy blotchy skin so I really needs something that covers all of my red spots and this really does, it one layer it truly evens out my skin tone which also means I don’t need to use as much concealer on my face. Bonus!  Now I have read a few reviews of this and many people don’t seem to use powder with this, but I just can’t do that I need  to know that my t-zone isn’t going to look like a shiny disco ball after a couple of hours so I put a light dusting of powder on my t-zone and it really makes it all stay in place.  This is the most important part – the lasting time!  To truly test this out I wore this on one of my really long days that involves a lot of travelling and walking quite a distance.  I am telling you by the end of the day it was still all there without looking cakey, most days I don’t have a chance to freshen up my makeup I normally just use the cheapo university toilet paper to blot my nose and keep on going.  So the fact that this lasted all day with only minimal oil breakthrough is an absolute miracle to me.  Plus it didn’t cling to my dry patches at the end of the day either!

All in all I think this is definitely my new favourite long lasting matte foundation, I can’t wait to see how this holds up in the summer as well!  I also think this will be a staple in my travel makeup bag, something that is easy to apply and lasts all day without any touch ups, this baby is definitely coming to Europe with me!

Have any of you tried this foundation?  What did you think?

Nude Lip Favourites

Everyone needs a nude lip option in the makeup stash and up until recently I didn’t really have many.  But as usual once I get a taste of one I want them all!  Originally my ideal nude lip was quite a pink one, I never really thought I suited a vert nude lip so I really tended towards the pinky kind.  However, since discovering a few true nudes I can now say I am a nudeaholic!  How scandalous!

My first favourite has to be the one that started it all; the Maybelline Color Drama Intense Velvet Lip Pencil in Nude Perfection – this is a very true nude and I was quite scared at first but after the whole Kylie Jenner 90’s revival I know I needed to give it a go.  I think what I like about this one is it a little darker than the average nude so It doesn’t wash me out plus these lip pencils are divine!  They are so creamy and non drying that they are comfortable on the lips all day.  The next true nude I have literally just purchased in the last couple of week but boy oh boy do I love it!  It’s the Clinique Pop in Nude Pop – This is quite a sheer nude colour which is bloody brilliant for everyday wear, I think it looks best with a lip liner underneath to make it last longer as well as add an extra oomph to it.  Another nudie rudie is the Essence Long-lasting Lipstick in Natural Beauty – This is the perfect slap on and go nude, its got a great amount of pigment that you can easily see it on your lips plus it’s a lovely formula that nice and creamy.  I’m not quite sure of their long lasting claims but it’s easy enough to reapply without a mirror.

Now it’s time to talk about the pinky nudes that I still use on a daily basis.  Let’s start on one that has continuously reappeared on my blog it’s the NYX Matte Lipstick in Audrey – I adore this and I tell you what I think it has been blog at least once a month since I started.  It just goes with absolutely any look imaginable and I know that when this does eventually run out it will be an immediate repurchase.  Finally, the last pinky nude I adore is the Too Faced Melted Liquified Lipstick in Melted Peony- This is actually quite similar to the NYX lipstick however, it does last a tad longer, and is possible a little bit paler.  Again this goes with any look and is super duper easy to apply with the sponge applicator.

So there you go, my favourite nude lipstick.  I hope there are a few options for everyone and for those who like me don’t suit every nude out there.

Bronze Goddess

Even though here in Australia we are still in the cold depths of winter a girl can dream of the beautiful summer times that lay ahead, so in my haste to get to summer I though I would share with you my favourite products to get the beautiful bronze goddess look.

The first product which I believe is key to the bronzey look is beautiful glowy skin.  Now as I am an oily skinned lass it is not possible for me to use the sheer luminous glowy foundations that most people like to use during the summer, if did that my makeup would be running down my face by 10am.  What I like to do to add some glow is add an illuminator either as a base or mixed in with my mattifying foundation.  I love the Revlon Photoready Skinlights in Bare LIght – Even when used underneath foundation this gives a beautiful lit from within glow that just screams its summer and I’m a bronze goddess!  As well as a lit from within glow I also like to have a bit of somethin somethin on top to give me the perfect bronze glow, option 1 here is liquid bronzer the one that I love is the Bobbi Brown All Over Bronzing Gel in Desert Sun – Now I don’t use this all over my face but I do like to use it where I would normally use a powder bronzer in the places the sun would naturally hit.  This looks kind of scary when you squeeze it out of tube, its dark with gold shimmer through it.  But once you blend it into the skin it looks beautiful and natural leaving a bronzy glow and not a muddy brown look.  Now if you’re going for the all out, I’m bronzed and I know it look, then you can always add a little bit of the Hourglass Ambient Bronzer in Luminous Light – Ever since I purchased this last month I have been using it non stop, even though it’s winter I want to glow so bad!  Now as I said you can use this over the top of the Bobbi Brown bronzer but that could be a little bit over the top, but this bronzer on its own is absolutely stunning.  I’m normally one to go for a matter bronzer however, when this beauty came along I new I had to try it, it just adds that extra depth to you skin whilst giving you a healthy glow or the ‘I’ve just come back from holiday look which can’t be beaten.

For me a bronze goddess look can not be complete without a gold/bronzey smokey eye.  For this I love using the Urban Decay Naked Palette – This cannot be beaten for all the bronzey gold shades looks ever.  I have been using this a lot lately due to my palette challenge so I have been giving my bronze looks a really workout.  I love using the gold shade half baked all over the lid with the matte brown, buck, in the crease and the dark brown, smog, to add even more depth to the crease.  I also love to use Makeup Geek’s Foiled Eyeshadow in Grandstand – I don’t know how they do it but this is the creamiest most pigmented bronze shade I have ever worked with, I just wear this alone on the lid sometimes and it looks like I have worked really hard perfecting a bronze smokey eye, this shade plus a the perfect crease shade, some brown eyeliner and lashings of mascara and your eye look is done!  Another honourable mention is Mac’s Tempting – Another shimmery bronze colour that looks great all over the lid.

What I love most about the combination of these products is the beautiful healthy look that it gives you.  You can feel like rubbish and look like you are glowing from within!  Who wouldn’t love that?

What are your got to products to look and feel like a bronze goddess?

Marie Claire’s The Parcel

I’ve signed up for a few subscription boxes in the past but I really do think that this one is the best!  It has some brilliant products including a lot of full size ones which is a real bonus!  So I though I would share what came in this seasons Parcel

The first products is an OPI nail polish in the shade Romantically Involved – it’s a beautiful almost burnt red shade that will be absolutely perfect for this time of year.  Next up is L’Oreal Paris Volume Million Lashes So Couture – Looking at the brush on this mascara, it looks quite similar to the Covergirl Lash Blast so I’m pretty sure I’m going to love this mascara.  Volume is the main thing I look for in a mascara so considering this is called ‘Volume Million’ I have high hopes!  It also has the Lanolips Lemonade Lip Aid – I love Lanolips, they are so nourishing and are the one of the only products that really keep my lips from drying out.  Coincidentally I just ran out of my 101 ointment so i’ll be very happy to start using this one.  Now I haven’t used a lot of Estee Lauder skincare but I am very much looking forward to trying their Revitalising Supreme Global Anti-Aging Creme – It feels lovely and claims to soften skin so I really want to see how this works on my dry patches.  More skincare is from the Neutrogena Hydro Boost line, it has three of their sheet masks which I am a big fan of!  I tried one of these the other day and they really do hydrate the skin, my skin was left feeling very plumped and smooth.  When I run out of my many, many Korean sheets mask I think I will be giving these ones another go.  Neutrogena also included a small pack of makeup removing towelettes, these are perfect for travelling!  Next up is the John Frieda Beach Blood Cool Dip Purifying Shampoo and Smooth Seas Detangling Conditioner – I am currently using this shampoo and conditioner anyway so I was happy to get some little bottles of it.  Again this is perfect for travelling and I think i’ll be saving these for my trip to Europe.  It also came with the John Frieda Ocean Waves Sea-Salt Spray – I love sea salt spray for when I couldn’t be bothered to do anything with my hair so I’m excited to see how these all work together.  Finally it came with Woolworths Select Quick & Easy Nail Polish Removal Wipes – I tried these straight away as my nail polish was looking pretty crappy and I was very disappointed.  They’re acetone free so they don’t remove anything!  I know acetone free is better for your nails but it just doesn’t work, they removed nothing and just made my nails sticky so I just had to use my regular nail polish remover.  If they had worked I would have been so happy, they would have been perfect for travel and much easier to use than cotton balls.

All in all I am very happy with this seasons Parcel and I can’t wait for the next one.  Do you subscribe to The Parcel?  Are there any other subscriptions that I should check out?

Winter Nails

I absolutely love wearing deep and dark shades on my nails in the winter months, in fact I often wear them in summer too.  What a rebel!  So when I found this deep red colour (it is a deeper shade in real life) whilst doing some shopping on Adore Beauty I knew I had to add it to my collection.  I had seen the brand Nails Inc pop up on a few beauty blogs and Vivianna Does Makeup had raved about this brand’s shade Porchester Square so I knew it must be worth a go.  This shade is Kensington High St and is part of their Gel Effect range which is supposed to give you a high shine super glossy finish without the UV light.  This was a big promise but my gosh did it pay off!  The finish of this is definitely as promised leaving a high shine and glossy finish, although I did still use a top coat but I believe it would have been sufficient without one.

This polish also lasts an extremely long time without chipping,   This photo was taken after a full week of wearing it and there is only a slight chip on my index finger, who doesn’t want this kind of long lasting nail polish?!  Finally, the last brilliant thing about this nail polish is that you do not need to return to the salon to get it removed, it comes off easily with nail polish remover. Bonus!  So another great nail polish to add to my collection and I think it’s safe to say this one will be on my nails for quite a while.
